Ever wonder what it's like to go from a leading role in a drama to being a leading assistant doing haircut for customers in a salon? Well, Mediacorp’s Tyler Ten did just that!
Tyler joined our salon for a day, eager to roll up his sleeves (and get wet ones too) while working alongside our Director, Lawrence. Tyler got a real taste of what it’s like to be a stylist – from shampoo to haircut – and it was nothing short of entertaining!
Starting from Scratch – Literally!
Most professional stylists train for at least 3 to 5 years before they get to work their magic confidently. Starting from scratch involves perfecting everything from the art of a gentle scalp massage to mastering the layers in a haircut. It’s no walk in the park, and Tyler experienced that firsthand.
Tyler came in early, eager to learn, and was all ears as Lawrence gave him a crash course in hair washing and haircutting. But learning how to wash and cut hair doesn’t come overnight – it takes years to get to Lawrence’s level. Tyler dived right in, facing the day's challenges, but with a smile and a lot of laughter.
Tyler’s First Client
When Tyler met his first client, he had his game face on. He gave a pretty impressively soothing hair wash and even took a shot at cutting hair. Now, don’t worry – Lawrence was right by his side to ensure all went smoothly. Yet, even with a mentor, any stylist’s first client can be nerve-wracking.
There’s always the classic newbie struggle of holding the scissors right and ensuring the angles look just right for the haircut.
Tyler faced all of it, with a few funny moments that had the salon chuckling.
Funny Moments in the Chair
A stylist’s first haircut can lead to some interesting situations: from accidentally dropping the comb to nervously snipping a little slower than usual.
As Tyler focused on each snip, a few unexpected (and humorous) moments popped up: from his overly cautious combing to those “Am I doing this right?” glances, it was a day of laughs for Tyler, Lawrence and his client. Tyler might have struggled with some of these, but he kept it light-hearted and fun – cracking jokes and keeping the mood lively.
But once after, he got to styling, our team could tell he had that natural flair for finishing touches!
